Quick answer

Download your Sparkasse bank statement as a PDF from Sparkasse Online-Banking / app under Postfach, upload it to StatementPilot, and export Excel, CSV, QBO, OFX or QIF. We check that the "Kontostand am" plus every transaction equals the "Kontostand am" so you know nothing was missed.

What a Sparkasse bank statement looks like

Sparkasse Kontoauszüge vary by regional Sparkasse but share Buchungstag, Wertstellung, Verwendungszweck and Betrag columns.

German 'Kontoauszug' PDFs show 'alter Kontostand' and 'neuer Kontostand', with Buchungstag and Wertstellung (value date) columns.

How to convert a Sparkasse statement

  • Sign in to Sparkasse Online-Banking / app under Postfach and download the statement for the period you need as a PDF (not a screenshot).
  • If the PDF is password-protected, open it and save an unprotected copy first.
  • Upload one or several months to StatementPilot. Scanned or photographed statements are read with OCR.
  • Check the reconciliation panel: the "Kontostand am" plus deposits minus withdrawals should equal the "Kontostand am".
  • Export to Excel or CSV for analysis, or QBO/OFX/QIF to import into DATEV, lexoffice and sevDesk.

Dates, amounts and account numbers in Germany

Amounts use 1.234,56; debits carry a trailing minus or are shown as 'S' (Soll) and credits as 'H' (Haben). We read the date order from the statement itself and default to DD.MM.YYYY for Germany, so 03/04 is never silently swapped.

Accounts are identified by IBAN (starting with DE) and BIC. Only the masked or last digits are carried into QBO/OFX files, as those importers expect.

Importing Sparkasse transactions into your accounting software

Accountants in Germany most often import into DATEV, lexoffice, sevDesk and Excel. Choose QBO for QuickBooks, the Xero CSV for Xero, OFX for most other packages, or Excel/CSV for anything else.

When your bank feed only goes back a few months, converted Sparkasse statements fill the gap for older periods without manual typing.

Why statements are still needed

Businesses must retain bank statements for 10 years under German retention rules (GoBD).

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a Sparkasse bank statement to Excel?

Yes. Upload the PDF and download an .xlsx file with date, description, amount and balance columns plus a summary sheet showing the kontostand am, kontostand am and reconciliation result.

How do I get my Sparkasse statement as a PDF?

Statements are available in Sparkasse Online-Banking / app under Postfach. Choose the statement period and download or save it as a PDF; a printed copy can also be scanned or photographed and uploaded.

Can I import Sparkasse transactions into DATEV?

Yes. Export the converted statement in the format DATEV accepts (QBO, OFX or a formatted CSV) and import it as a bank statement file. Dates are written in the format your software expects.

Do I need a Sparkasse template?

No. StatementPilot doesn't rely on bank-specific templates, so redesigned Sparkasse statements and older layouts both work. The reconciliation check confirms nothing was missed.
