What makes our OFX files reliable
We write well-formed OFX 2.2 XML with the correct message set for bank accounts or credit cards, ISO currency codes, posting dates, signed amounts, payee names (and a memo when descriptions are long), and a ledger balance taken from the statement's closing balance.
Transaction IDs (FITID) are deterministic, so re-importing a statement doesn't create duplicates in apps that de-duplicate on FITID.

Frequently asked questions
Is OFX the same as QFX or QBO?
QFX (Quicken) and QBO (QuickBooks) are vendor dialects of OFX. Plain OFX works in most other software; use QBO for QuickBooks.
Can Xero import OFX files?
Yes. In Xero open the bank account, choose Import a statement, and upload the OFX file. You can also use our Xero CSV export.
Does the OFX include the account balance?
Yes, the closing balance printed on your statement is written as the ledger balance.
