Quick answer

Upload a PDF or scanned bank statement, review the extracted transactions, and download an .xlsx workbook with Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Amount and Balance columns plus a Summary sheet that shows whether the statement reconciles to its closing balance.

How to do it

  1. 1

Upload the PDF, scan or phone photo of your statement.

  2. 2

We extract every transaction and check opening + transactions = closing balance.

  3. 3

Fix anything flagged in the review table (rarely needed).

  4. 4

    Download the Excel workbook.

What you get in the Excel file

  • A Transactions sheet with real Excel dates and numbers (not text), so SUM, pivot tables and filters work immediately.
  • Separate Debit and Credit columns and a signed Amount column, so you can use whichever your workpaper template expects.
  • The running balance printed on the statement, cheque numbers and references when the bank prints them.
  • A Summary sheet with bank, account last four digits, statement period, opening and closing balance and the reconciliation result.
  • Frozen header row and auto-filter, ready to sort or hand to a client.

Why copy-paste from a PDF into Excel goes wrong

Bank PDFs are designed for printing, not for data. When you copy a page, columns collapse into a single cell, multi-line descriptions split across rows, page headers repeat in the middle of your data, and negative amounts written as (1,234.56) or 1,234.56 DR stay as text. Fixing that by hand for a 12-month statement can take an hour and still leave a transposed digit nobody notices.

A converter that understands statement structure rebuilds each row, normalizes dates and amounts, and — most importantly — proves the result is complete by tying it back to the balances the bank printed.

Scanned statements and phone photos

Older statements, faxed copies and photos taken on a phone have no text layer. We detect that automatically and use AI vision OCR, then run exactly the same balance checks. If a figure is unreadable, the reconciliation tells you instead of silently guessing.

Excel or CSV?

Choose Excel when a person will read or work in the file — it keeps number formats and includes the reconciliation summary. Choose CSV when another system will import the data (most accounting tools, databases and scripts prefer CSV).

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a bank statement PDF to Excel for free?

Yes. The Free plan includes 20 pages every month with every export format, including Excel. No credit card is required.

Will the dates and amounts be real numbers in Excel?

Yes. Dates are written as Excel dates and amounts as numbers with two decimals, so formulas, sorting and pivot tables work without any cleanup.

Does it work with multi-page and multi-month statements?

Yes. Long statements are processed in chunks and stitched back together in order; the opening balance from the first page and the closing balance from the last page are used for the reconciliation check.

How accurate is the conversion?

Accuracy is measured, not promised: every statement is checked against its own opening and closing balance, running balances and printed totals. If anything doesn't tie out, the rows involved are flagged before you download.

Which banks are supported?

Any bank that issues PDF or paper statements. There are no per-bank templates to maintain; see the bank directory for notes on specific banks.
