Importing a QBO file into QuickBooks
Step-by-step QBO import for QuickBooks Online and Desktop, plus common errors.
QuickBooks Online: Banking › Transactions › Link account › Upload from file › choose the .qbo file › select the account › Continue.
QuickBooks Desktop: File › Utilities › Import › Web Connect Files › select the file › choose an existing account.
Common issues
- "The file you selected cannot be read" — make sure you're importing a bank statement into a bank account and a card statement into a credit card account; try the QuickBooks CSV export (Online).
- Institution not supported (Desktop) — export again with a different bank ID in the export options.
- Duplicate transactions — QuickBooks skips matching FITIDs; duplicates usually come from overlapping bank-feed downloads.
