PDF bank statement

Definition

A bank statement delivered as a PDF document — readable by people but not directly importable by accounting software.

PDF statements are either digital (generated by the bank, with a text layer) or scanned (an image of paper). Digital PDFs can be read precisely; scanned PDFs need OCR.

Accounting software imports CSV, QBO, OFX or QIF rather than PDF, so PDF statements are converted first.
