Convert Merrill (Merrill Lynch) brokerage statements to Excel, CSV & QBO

Convert Merrill (Merrill Lynch) brokerage statements (PDF or scanned) to Excel, CSV, QBO or OFX, with every balance reconciled. Free plan available.

Quick answer

Download your Merrill (Merrill Lynch) brokerage statement as a PDF from merrilledge.com / MyMerrill under Statements, upload it to StatementPilot, and export Excel, CSV, QBO, OFX or QIF. We check that the "Opening Value" plus every transaction equals the "Closing Value" so you know nothing was missed.

What a Merrill (Merrill Lynch) brokerage statement looks like

Merrill statements report cash flow, dividends and security transactions; the Cash/Margin activity table is used for reconciliation.

US statements usually open with an account summary (beginning balance, deposits, withdrawals, fees, ending balance) followed by transaction sections and a daily balance table.

How to convert a Merrill (Merrill Lynch) statement

  • Sign in to merrilledge.com / MyMerrill under Statements and download the statement for the period you need as a PDF (not a screenshot).
  • If the PDF is password-protected, open it and save an unprotected copy first.
  • Upload one or several months to StatementPilot. Scanned or photographed statements are read with OCR.
  • Check the reconciliation panel: the "Opening Value" plus deposits minus withdrawals should equal the "Closing Value".
  • Export to Excel or CSV for analysis, or QBO/OFX/QIF to import into QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop and Quicken.

Dates, amounts and account numbers in the US

Amounts use a period for decimals and commas for thousands (1,234.56). Withdrawals are often shown with a minus sign or in a separate column. We read the date order from the statement itself and default to MM/DD/YYYY for United States, so 03/04 is never silently swapped.

Only the last four digits of the account number are printed on most pages; the full routing number appears on checks, not in transaction rows. Only the masked or last digits are carried into QBO/OFX files, as those importers expect.

What gets extracted from a Merrill (Merrill Lynch) statement

For brokerage statements we extract the cash activity — deposits, withdrawals, dividends, interest, fees and trade settlements — as dated transactions with a running cash balance. Position and holdings tables are not exported as transactions.

Why statements are still needed

Banks must provide periodic statements under Regulation E for electronic transfers, and most keep 7 years of PDF statements available online.
